- Assistant Public Advocate
Description
There are current openings for Full-Time Assistant Public Advocates in the Chemung County Public Advocate's office. The Public Advocates Office is Chemung County's conflict defender office, handling both criminal and family court assignments. Positions available would involve both parental representation caseload in family court and representation of clients in criminal courts throughout Chemung County. Applicants must be admitted to practice law in New York and be an attorney in good standing. Prior experience in these areas of practice are preferred but not required. Training and mentorship will be provided.
The Full-Time position includes a starting salary of $95,479.00 and could be higher based on years of experience. A fringe benefits package is included that is
comprised of Health insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation, personal time, and sick time. Additionally, attorneys are eligible for inclusion in
the New York State Retirement System.
There art also positions available in the Public Advocate~ Office for Law Clerk, this position would be available for subjects who have graduated law school but
not yet taken the bar exam, passed and been admitted. These positions would require the selected individual to work under a practicing attorney but otherwise
perform the functions of an assistant public advocate. The salary for a Law Clerk is $69,293 and includes the same fringe benefits package available to Assistant
Public Advocates.
