Description
The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is seeking to hire three (3) dedicated and compassionate Family Court Attorneys to join our dynamic and committed legal team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 1–3 years of experience who is passionate about providing high-quality legal representation to indigent clients and advocating for justice in Family Court.
Position Summary
The Family Court Attorney will represent clients in a wide range of Family Court proceedings, providing zealous advocacy and compassionate counsel to individuals and families facing complex legal challenges. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with experienced attorneys and support staff in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in Family Court proceedings, including:
- Child and spousal support
- Family offense proceedings
- Abuse and neglect matters
- Paternity proceedings
- Custody and visitation disputes
- Conduct client interviews and provide legal advice and counseling.
- Draft motions, pleadings, legal memoranda, and other court documents.
- Appear regularly in Family Court for conferences, hearings, and trials.
- Negotiate settlements and advocate effectively on behalf of clients.
- Collaborate with attorneys, social workers, and support staff to provide holistic client representation.
- Maintain accurate case files and comply with all reporting and administrative requirements.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
- One to three years of legal experience, with demonstrated experience representing clients in New York Family Court.
- Strong courtroom advocacy, legal research, writing, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to public interest law and serving low-income and vulnerable populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated legal team.
